Concha y Toro, wine WINE excellence

Chile is a winemaking paradise. With long, hot summers and cool coastal breezes, natural irrigation from melting snow, and an environment virtually free of pests and diseases, Chile has one of the finest terroirs in the world. Chile also offers a diversity of soil types and climates to produce a wide variety of wines.

Wine has been part of the country's economic history and heritage, arriving from its beginnings through the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century, who cultivated the first vineyards and produced wines for personal consumption.

As the years went by, this vineyard culture spread throughout the country. The industry achieved such a development that it was able to make its first exports to neighboring countries and position itself worldwide as a major exporter. In this sense, and being faithful to the tradition that characterizes the industry and makes Chileans proud, the country has managed to consolidate itself as one of the most important exporters on the American continent, competing with great powers such as Spain, Italy, France, and Australia.

CONCHA Y TORO VINEYARD

Viña Concha y Toro is the leading producer and exporter of wines in Latin America and one of the 10 largest wine companies in the world, with a presence in more than 130 countries. It also owns more than 12,000 hectares of vineyards in Chile, Argentina, and the United States.

Today it holds a prominent position among the most important wine companies, with consolidated sales in 2020 of $836,713 million and 37.6 million cases marketed globally.

Viña Concha y Toro has been named among the Top 100 Wineries of the Year 27 times by Wine & Spirits and was chosen in 2021 as International Drinks Company of the Year by The Drinks Business.

The Company has worked on a vertically integrated production system, investing heavily in its own vineyards, modern plants and wineries and, more recently, in marketing, participating directly in distribution in key markets.

A SUCCESS STORY

In 1883, Don Melchor Concha y Toro founded Viña Concha y Toro. Subsequently, in 1922, the company was incorporated as a corporation, expanding its corporate name to wine production in general.

Viña Concha y Toro shares began trading on the Santiago Stock Exchange in 1933. In the same year the first export was made.

In 1966, Casillero del Diablo was launched, which opened the way to the production of more complex wines. Likewise, in 1987, the first vintage of Don Melchor, the first icon wine of the Chilean industry, was launched.

In 1990, the Company began an extensive program of land purchases and vineyard plantings, and today Viña Concha y Toro has the greatest diversity of vineyards, valleys, and varieties in the Chilean industry.

On October 14, 1993, Viña Concha y Toro became the first winery in the world to list its shares on the New York Stock Exchange.

In 1996, Viña Concha y Toro began to expand in Latin America with the founding of Triveto Bodegas y Viñedos in Argentina.

The company signed a joint venture with Baron Philippe de Rothschild to produce Almaviva in 1997.

The first distribution subsidiary outside Chile, Concha y Toro UK, was created in 2001.

In 2010, a strategic alliance was signed with Manchester United and the Viña Maipo subsidiary was born.

During 2011, the Company acquired the subsidiary Fetzer Vineyards in California, USA, a pioneering winery in sustainable practices. In the same year, Concha y Toro is chosen as the Most Admired Wine Brand in the World by Drinks International. Likewise, "Trivento bodegas y viñedos" was acquired in Mendoza, Argentina, which in 2021 was recognized as the best-selling Argentine wine brand globally (source IWSR).

As a result of its sustainability strategy, in 2012 Viña Concha y Toro received the Carbon Neutral certificate and in 2013 it obtained the Sustainability Certification of Wines of Chile.

In 2014, the Research and Innovation Center was inaugurated.
